Gwen Baird’s route into business coaching was not mapped out in advance. It grew from a lifetime of adapting: to family circumstances, to work that failed to give her enough freedom, to profound loss and, eventually, to a diagnosis that meant her travelling sales career could not continue.
Today, Gwen is a certified business coach, mentor and advanced Meta ads strategist. She works primarily with experienced business owners who have knowledge, ideas and potential but need greater clarity about how to turn what they have into a professional, profitable business.
From a quiet Scottish childhood to working for herself
Gwen remembers herself as a quiet, shy child and a natural people watcher. When she told a careers officer that she wanted to become a pilot, he laughed and told her it would never happen. She moved into office work but quickly discovered that the restrictions of a conventional nine-to-five role did not suit her.
Marriage to a member of the RAF meant regularly moving home, which made conventional employment difficult. Freelance law accountancy gave Gwen an early taste of working independently and structuring work around family life.
When life changes the route
The most personal part of Gwen’s story includes the loss of her young daughter following a heart transplant and, years later, Gwen’s own diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy. Unable to continue travelling across the country as a sales agent, she gave herself time to absorb what had happened and then began looking for what she could still do.
A free social media course sparked the next chapter. Gwen began managing social media for companies she had previously represented, later developing a deeper interest in the psychology and structure of business. That progression ultimately led to business coaching and advanced Meta ads strategy.
Clarity before complexity
Gwen’s approach begins with two deceptively simple questions: where are you now, and where do you genuinely want to be? From there, she helps clients identify the gap and put the foundations, systems and daily actions in place to cross it.
She is equally direct about marketing. Posting on social media is not a complete marketing strategy, people cannot buy an offer they never hear about, and advertising is not a magic fix. Good decisions come from understanding the message, the customer and the data—and then implementing what has been learned.
Throughout the conversation, Gwen returns to choice: choosing how to respond when circumstances change, choosing a business that respects your energy and health, and choosing to keep trying when an idea does not work the first time.
