What does working at the coalface mean to you?
It sounds like a simple question, but the answers reveal something deeply personal about how each guest sees work, life and the experiences that have shaped them.
In this special pre-launch episode, some of the first guests from Coalface Stories: 60 for 60 share their answers. The phrase takes one guest back to a childhood with a coal-mining father. For others, it means showing up every day, understanding the work from the inside, supporting people through real-life challenges or refusing to watch from the sidelines.
The answers also reach beyond business. They touch on time, purpose, vulnerability, human connection and the stories everybody carries with them.
Together, these voices offer an early taste of what Coalface Stories is about: honest conversations with people who have lived, learned and worked through the realities of life.
There is no definitive meaning of working at the coalface. There are only the different meanings we discover through the people willing to share their stories.
